Leaves

I‘ve been having a clear out and came across some leaves that I pressed last year.

I sprayed them with silver paint and they look ace. You could use them for all sorts of things – such as an autumnal garland or gift topper. I’m going to use mine as Christmas tree decorations (what do you think?).

The best thing is that they are cheap and quick to make.

I pressed my leaves in a heavy book. I put a single layer of leaves in between two tissues and then popped them in between the pages. Make sure you use an old book just in case any moisture seeps out.

What are you making this Halloween? I would love to know so please leave a comment with a link to the project!

Finally I took them outside to spray them – my spraypaint is a bit smelly. Make sure you put plenty of newspaper down – unless you want silver grass of course!

  1. Sounds lovely Becky…. I’m always so disappointed with pressed leaves because the colors are never as vivid as they are when you collect them – this is a good way to prettify them!

  2. Oh, and I have a silver spray painted walnut that a friend of mine made a few years ago that is super beautiful, in case you want to try something like that!

  3. What kind of spray I am supposed to use to have a wonderful result as yours? I am thinking to make gold and bronze leaves and to place them in a frame behind a glass as painting. I am planning to place it in the hallway close to the front door. How does my idea sounds to you?

  4. This post couldn’t come at a better time! I was just sifting through my Christmas pinterest board (which contains many many pins from your previous posts btw) to prepare ornaments for this years tree. I will definitely give this a try next year. I haven’t dried leaves because I haven’t found a good reason to until now! BTW, are the leaves still fragile after you spray them?

  5. This may well be a stupid question, but do you press leaves when they’re green, or when they’re brown/yellow/golden (i.e. fallen from the tree)?
    Thanks!

  6. I am also wondering how fragile they are. They are gorgeous, and I’d love to add them to the tops of gifts, but things have to be sturdy around here to last longer than the seconds… 😉

  7. The Oak leaves were really sturdy…the others seemed fine too. I imagine maple leaves (and the like) would be more brittle. A layer of spray certainly made them more sturdy – they would be perfectly fine for gift-toppers. Happy wrapping x
