8-bit popup cards

Hello! Remember that pixel heart card I made a while back? Well it has been one of my most popular tutorials to date so I thought I would add another few designs to the collection. Meet ‘space-invader popup’ and ‘skull popup’:

8-bit popup cards

Like the heart card, they are really minimal (which I just love) and easy to make once you have got the hang of it.

8-bit popup cards

You definitely need a craft knife (and a steady hand) to make these cards this project is only really suitable for adults or teenagers.

Shadow puppets

We’ve been making shadow puppets! My sons have always loved playing with torches in our downstairs cupboard so the shadow puppets have had a lot of use.

Shadow puppets

Me eldest son has also become interested in putting on ‘plays’ for us lately….he’s getting into that whole storytelling thing…(very funny + cute)!

Templates are here to download (there are a few extra ones on the template that aren’t pictured including a pacman inspired ghost).

You can print them out onto thin black card (and you should should be still able to see the outlines). You will need little split pins for the robot and sticks to attach them to.

Holly from chezbeeperbebe also put together some wonderful shadow puppet templates this year so check those out too!

Hope you all have a great Halloween! We are off to buy a pumpkin today so if anyone knows of any good designs please shout out!! I have only ever carved one pumpkin in my life so it’s new-ish territory for me!

Pacman Halloween garland

I vividly remember playing pacman when I was younger and I used to get the heebie-jeebies just before one of those little ghosts gobbled me up. Anyhow…I still think they are a bit spooky (in a friendly kind of way) so thought they would make an excellent Halloween garland.

Pacman Halloween garland

The shapes are pretty simple, so very easy to chop out. I’ve been making mine, feet up, in front of the telly. Can’t beat a bit of multitasking…haha!

I’ve left my feet in this picture to give you an idea of how big the cut-outs are. If anyone wants a full tutorial then leave a comment. Full instructions after the jump!

The Crafty Crow: Cut out and keep skeleton

Cassi from The Crafty Crow asked me to contribute to her “A Book & A Craft Series” which lasts the whole month of June. Check it out….there are a few lovely posts already there so I reckon it’s going to be a cracking month.

One of my all time favorite books is Funnybones by Janet Ahlberg. I have such fond memories of that book as a child and my two boys adore it also.

Printable paper skeleton

For some reason I always wanted to make a life-size (well, child-size) paper skeleton so here are the results.

Do you fancy making one? If so hop over to The Crafty Crow for instructions and printable templates.

Ours skeleton is hung in the kitchen and his name is Fred! x

Cereal box shadow theater

Whilst my shadow makers are perfect for younger children this cereal box shadow theater makes a great project for an older child.

It’s really simple to make, and can be made from household scraps, so why not flick the telly off this Halloween and get the kids to entertain for a bit!

Halloween shadow makers

My sons are crazy about torches at the moment and love to hide in the pantry with the lights off scaring one another!! With this in mind I thought it would be a great idea to make them these little shadow makers for Halloween.

Halloween shadow maker

The best thing is that they are very easy to make – all you need is some black paper, a craft knife, sticky tape and some wooden sticks.

Halloween shadow maker

I have scanned in my shadow makers which you can use as a template. Click here to download (pdf). Simply print out the template and cut round the shapes. Alternately you can use the template to trace the ‘shadows’ onto a black piece of paper. I used some wooden coffee stirrers to stick the ‘shadows’ onto. They were the perfect size and free!

In the next 3/4 days I hope to write a tutorial about making a cereal box shadow theater so stay tuned!
