Quick craft // DIY galaxy envelopes

Galaxy DIY’s are everywhere at the moment and it’s easy to apply this theme to lots of paper-craft projects. All you need is an old astronomy magazine (they contain page after page of mind-blowing images that you can cut out)!

DIY galaxy envelopes

I made some envelopes (and some geometric wall-art….coming soon)!

There are a gazillion envelope templates on the web that you can use (or you could use my string-tied envelope template). You could also make some galaxy gift-tags/ribbon or some 3d galaxy geometric shapes.

  1. If you can’t find old astronomy mags, also check out NASA’s “Image of the Day” feature on their website. For example, yesterday’s image would make a beautiful paper craft: http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/678125main_hubble_sparkles_full_full.jpg

I’m also obsessed with space, so I’ve done a lot of constellation-based cut out DIYs. This iPad sleeve is a good example: http://beinggeekchic.com/post/25200482895/diy-weekend-constellation-ipad-case-video

  2. Oooh I like the ipad case Liz….so cool!!

All of NASA’s images are copyright free which is brilliant. I was just worried about using up all of the ink in my printer :-/ …it’s a great alternative though if you don’t have any magazines ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Lovely to hear all your ideas Joey.

Love the idea of the space b’day theme. My 5 year old is crazy about anything space related (I am too for that matter!). Also like the book idea…I wanna cover all my notebooks now!

    Kate ^_^

  4. Good idea! I have also made similar envelopes out of pages from magazines with graphics or images that I find interesting or with bright bold colors.

    Thanks for this amazing idea!

  12. Not to be rude, but you never actually said HOW to do it…tracing around the envelope wont put the design on the envelope. Can you be a bit more specific please.?

  13. Hi Stacy,

You must have skipped the first paragraph ๐Ÿ˜‰

“All you need is an old astronomy magazine (they contain page after page of mind-blowing images that you can cut out)!”

  16. Gopal, I mentioned in the post that they were taken from an old astronomy magazine. If you canโ€™t find old astronomy mags, also check out NASAโ€™s โ€œImage of the Dayโ€ feature on their website.

  17. I always make my own envelopes and am always looking for new themes. I never thought of astronomy. I’ll be looking out for space mags now!

  18. Brilliant idea! Wanted some images to make jewellery with and after doing a search for ‘galaxy craft papers’ I found your page! Would never have thought of this. Off to Ebay to find a mag! Thanks.
