My (twin) sister came up with this ‘paper butterfly’ idea and all our kids (as different as they are) love them.
We usually do the cutting-out and then we hand them over to the kids to decorate. Once they have embellished to their hearts content we tape a skewer or straw onto the body of the butterfly then the kids run around giving them a good old flap! Easy!
I usually just cut them out freehand but if you want a template you can download one here!
Hope you have all had a lovely weekend. My little boy still recovering from his tonsillectomy (I guess when the doctors told me it would be a two week recovery peroid they really did mean two weeks). My eldest son also had a great first week at school. He’s been pretty tired though and tried to pull a sicky on day three…didn’t take long for the novelty to wear off!!
This is so very gorgeous – for big kids too. Thanks for sharing!
I don’t remember mine ever looking quite so posh Kate! Love ya… sis xxx
thanks for this! my two girls 3 and 18 months pounced on this and we’ve done it two days in a row. I stuck them onto a chopstick with sticky tape and they’ve loved flapping their butterflies around the house!!
Thanks all…and thanks for leaving a comment sis….first one ever i believe!!!!
Hi Jacinta…yeah I dunno what it is about this craft….it’s sooo simple but all the kids I know love it! just popped over to your blog…good luck with number three!
Thanks a lot for the pattern for the butterfly. It will be fun to do some stuff with my niece & nephew 2nd grade & 4 year old.
Great craft! My younger children (4 and 9 years) jumped on this. We printed out the template and they made their butterflies with very little help, and have spent well over an hour “flapping” them around the yard. 🙂
I’ve been passing the link around — thank you for sharing!
This is very cute , i would love to try this with my daughter too
